Friday nights are typically a night to kick back, relax and catch up on all the shows that I Tivo’d throughout the week and most likely fell asleep watching before the opening credits even rolled! One of the shows that I typically watch is “Numb3rs” on CBS. I like the blend of math and good ol’ FBI detective work to bring the latest bad guy to justice. On “Guilt Trip“, a jury is influenced somehow, and the bad guy is found not guilty regardless of the MOUNTAIN of evidence against him! Of course, Charlie, the brainy mathematician, is able to figure out how he infiltrated the jury through his SNP Equation (Social Networking Potential). He goes on to explain how sites like Facebook, rely on people who have a high SNP to expand their user base. These people are known for their ability to exert their influence on other people. He also states that successful marketing campaigns target these people.
It’s true! When you are deciding who to reach out to, who to send free samples to, who to focus your time on, at some point you want to ensure they are going to be able to spread the love about you, your product or your company. Why do you think so many companies have a Facebook page, Twitter on a regular basis and spend time beefing up their profile on LinkedIn. All of these actions are attempts to influence their target audience and to spread the word in a viral manner!
So the next time you are starting to think that Social Networking is a waste of time, think again. Perhaps it is just the way you are approaching it! Seek out those that can be your very own cheerleaders and you will find that even a small minority can influence the majority!
Do you think you could influence those around you? What is your SNP?
