I have a social media anger issue that I need to air out. When I read a really great blog post and I want to tweet it to my followers, I get really, reeeeeaaalllly frustrated when the share icon is not set properly with the blog title, short url and the company or the person’s Twitter handle.
Note: I completely lose it when you don’t have share icons at all…don’t even get me started about that untapped opportunity!
Ok, back to my post…If you blog and you want people to share your blog post, my goodness – please help yourself and have the settings set properly for optimal user experience!
If I click the Twitter Icon (example of a share widget bar below) to share a post, I should get three things:
- The title of the post
- A SHORT url
- Your company or your Twitter handle.
For example, if you like my blog post on leveraging the psychology of language (and I sure hope you do!) when you click to share via the Twitter icon at the end of the post, the share looks like this:
Power-up Your Marketing by Leveraging the Psychology of Language https://shar.es/1w7K3A via @WebMarketing_RX
Title of the post, short url and our company’s twitter handle are all there. Sweet tweet!
Sharing is caring and if you want people to share, you have to care!
It’s plain MEAN to make the sharing party look up your Twitter handle to credit you (and fat chance they even would if it’s not already pre-set) and you certainly wouldn’t want to inconvenience anyone and make them shorten the url.
Be kind to the people who want to tweet your stuff!
Take the small step to login to your social sharing account and get these settings done. We do this for all our clients, it’s a must. If you don’t manage your own blog, you can have your web person do it and if you need WMT’s super Wil to help (he’s ah-may-zing), call us! and make sure the title, short url and your twitter handle are in there to optimize your visibility and the sharer’s user experience!
Happy, healthy blogging to y’all!
