I own that I was a little too beeatchy today as I am trying to conquer my inbox, pay bills, save the planet and pack for my New Year’s trip (and blog!!!  Gotta get that in, hellooooo!!!) so my second web marketing recessionista tip is more how to stay sane while web marketing (and do sane work on a budget!) Get Pandora to get your good mood on.  Music is therapeutic, it makes you happy, calm, nice and brings you closer to your inner savvy marketing self.  I broke up with my XM Radio subscription this year after their invoicing system got all nusto and have since discovered a smarter, no-cost way to get my music on.

Pandora is cheaper than therapy - get it, got it? GOOD.

Pandora allows you to pick your fave artists and it creates stations for you…I looooove that!!!!  Why work in ick yuck environments?  Create a smart, happy space.

A recessionista is ”a person who stays fashionable during an economic downturn without spending a lot of money” (Source: New York Times)

From a fashion perspective, this is way cool….from a web marketing perspective, this is even MORE COOLIO….web marketing can propel your web marketing forward without spending a lot of money!
As we enter 2009, let us not think of the downturn economy (remember, recessions are for economies,
not individuals…) let us think of the opportunity to pull our heads out of the confines of nutso dollar spending and look to ways to invest our time (and money) wisely.


Smart marketing is about thinking about how to best serve and offer value to your target audience…guess what?  I bet they are online :)

It is time to become a web marketing recessionista, and we’re going to help show you how.

This will be a multi-part series with tips and tricks on how to use web marketing as a low-cost, no-cost killer marketing tool.

Tip one on how to tap your inner web marketing recessionista:
Use what you’ve got
Yes, it’s really that simple.  Remember that there is a reason that you got to where you are or are sitting at a desk, office or hold a particular job for a number of reasons:
–your experience
–your expertise
–your contacts
–your life experience
–your education
What lives in your brain can be leveraged online to help you get to where you want to go. 
Example – you are a brilliant interior designer.  You can transform rooms, spaces, offices….that is something to USE to help you market yourself, company, products and services.

I loose it when I see testimonial pages stuffed in the deep, dark, fiery footers of client’s websites or press pages hidden (or company news that isn’t showcased at all) or case studies that are never written or expertise that isn’t packed into a blog, podcast, email newsletter or white paper.

Spending money on flyers and advertising doesn’t mean anything if you don’t put your best foot forward or toot your own horn.

Use what you’ve got to get what you want – that is the start of your low-cost, no-cost foundation to have marketing success.
