Unfortunately, I am not in a position to give you $50 million (I wish I were), rather this is an example of how a catchy, buzz-worthy headline can pull you in. With the exorbitant amount of information we receive on a daily basis whether it’s print, online, radio or TV, we have only seconds to grab the reader’s attention. Why should people read your blog versus the 50 million+ others and not to forget the hundreds of social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Bebo, Friendster, Viadeo, Yammer, Tumblr and Orkut that share information among millions of users.

As a consumer and contributor of media, I’ve learned that you must make your headline catchy and concise, or you’re never going to draw your audience in. Look at my fellow Wild Web Woman’s blog headline from earlier this week, “Monday Marketing Motivation: Stay Hungry.” (FYI…the headline also had an image of a delicious syrupy stack of pancakes below it)! The post wasn’t created to make you crave pancakes, instead it was a reminder to not be complacent and to stay busy and get work done. Bottom line…Stay Hungry!

Matt Cheuvront’s article, “What Megan Fox Can Teach Us About Writing Compelling Blog Content,” also confirms my point of using buzz-worthy headlines. To my surprise, the article was not about Megan at all, rather it “illustrate(d) a greater point on the fine art of writing compelling content that keeps your readers interested and limits ‘disappointment.’” Cheuvront believes that your headline is more important than the content. I’m sure some of you are thinking that’s crazy; however, he has a point in that your headline is what entices your readers to continue reading and possibly go on to reading additional posts. “If your bait isn’t interesting, compelling, buzz worthy, and sexy – your readers won’t bite on the rest of the post – you’ll put your readers to sleep and they’ll be quick to think ‘Is it over yet?’ When in doubt, cheat the system and tag everything with Megan Fox.” Just kidding…

Hope you enjoyed your dose of web marketing therapy!
