Words that web marketers absolutely love: buzz, traffic, social media, search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), blogosphere, analytics, twittering, natural/organic search, paid search, pay-per-click (PPC), page rank, e-book, meta tag, Google, Facebook, Delicious, Digg, webcast and the list goes on and on. However lately I’ve noticed “viral marketing” is the trendy buzz term of the season. Even my father, who just learned how to text message last month, asked me if I engage in viral marketing!
Companies of all sizes, entrepreneurs, marketing professionals and even us Wild Web Women want this word-of-mouse, viral phenomenon to spread our ideas, products, and services. Wouldn’t it be great, and not to mention cost efficient and timely, to tell ten people you’re launching a product and have those ten people tell hundreds and those hundreds tell thousands who then tell millions?
I was perusing the internet last night and came across a YouTube video on viral marketing. It takes a basic concept, like selling soap, and shows how viral marketing can be explained.
