by Lorrie Thomas
Kelly reminded me today that several of my “Lorrie Thomas” domain names like lorriethomas.biz, lorriethomas.net and lorriethomas.info were about to expire.
So, I shelled out money (that I would have preferred to put to gourmet dinner of something “sexier”!!) in the name of web marketing best practices and being a web marketing control freak.
Web marketing word de jour:
domain name maniac = domainiac
It is ok to be a little control freakish in the name of web marketing. I opted to secure all versions of my domains for another couple of years to protect my brand, name and to help with my search optimization.
It is healthy to be a domain name maniac. I will not use those urls (or redirect them to www.lorriethomas.com), but I did want control to protect my name and prevent others from using it for their marketing!!
Don’t get me wrong, Lorrie Thomas, the brilliant realtor in Georgia is very good at what she does and is a very nice person, but I don’t want her to build a website on www.lorriethomas.net and confuse people who are searching for me….
If you have not secured other versions of your company name or the .biz. .nets, .whatevers, it may be a healthy investment for the life of your web marketing!
PS My apologies to any of you who now have the “she’s a maniac” song from Flashdance in your heads….

This is a great point for anyone who haven’t yet registered their personal domain name…I registered mine (RonaldWells.com & .net) back in 2007…and since I read your post, I am going to register the remaining extensions now (.org, .us and .biz)! I should know better…especially since I’m in the Domain Industry
