“Most of the things worth doing in the world had
been declared impossible before they were done.”
-Louis D. Brandeis, Activist, Lawyer, Supreme Court Justice
I want to pump you all with “2009 is going to be divine” motivation before the year ends and this quote is a great kick-start. I just finished my final practicum for grad school at Antioch University, Santa Barbara (Master of Arts in Organizational Management) and my final thesis charted the business plan and educational process as I birthed Web Marketing Therapy, a concept that a few years ago, seemed not-so-do-able.
The years of learning how to plan, strategize, understand work systems, management styles, leadership patterns and success theories helped make me a better professional. However, the my inner critical thinker took all the education and as I actually applied it, I realized the biggest, hairiest ”AH- HAs!” after I put my blood, sweat and tears into my final demonstration of education was that it 1. pays off to have BHAGs (Big, Hairy, Ass Goals) because if you don’t think big, you won’t get big !
annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnddddddddddddddddddd………………………
2. Sometimes you just gotta let go of the ledge because even the most brilliant, APA, MLA (WTF?) formatted, grammatically stunning, perfectly cited papers don’t mean s^%t unless they are actually executed. Those of you who follow the blog know I like to say that great ideas are only great if they are executed brilliantly, but I learned in my educational process that it’s often more important to think first that great ideas are only great if they are executed – PERIOD.
Planning is powerful, we are big strategists in wild-web-womanland, but being ready to take the step in the first place is often far more critical.
Web Marketing is the wild, wild, west. You can plan, but no matter how well-crafted your plan is, expect to have lots of unplanned learning in the process, no matter how prepared you are, that is the nature of this beast.
After I wrote my business plan (after I started building Web Marketing Therapy mind you!) I looked back on the plan and saw a concept that may have been declared impossible if I had gotten consumed in analysis paralysis and felt too much fear to leap into the unknown.
I had a vision to build a web marketing education company with a “therapeutic, funny twist” so I didn’t have to say “no” to all the small business owners, entrepreneurs, marketing managers, people I met speaking at conferences and students who wanted more information (but didn’t need a full-fledged agency) I think a company that offered Marketing Therapy could be considered a BHAG…
…and my BHAG turned out to be very possible with a little vision, guts and willingness to take that first step. And as other companies are freaking out on how to stay afloat, the wild web women are moving into teaching and training to serve an economy and small business population that is suffering…offering a solution where more professionals could self-help and invest in themselves for some DIY marketing was more necessary (and less impossible) than we ever imagined! Go figure!
Don’t declare what is impossible. Declare what is possible, shoot high with your marketing goals and make it happen.
We’ll be here to offer web marketing advice, support, and more for you.

Aha! That’s why you pushed me to get the data in and launch away!!!! I wanted to make it perfect first and you wanted me to take the leap. Now I understand. Thanks.

We also pushed you because your concept was brilliant and boomers and seniors needed http://www.50somethinginfo.com soooo much!! Web marketing is never “perfect” -it’s always a work in progress, but when you serve a need or solve a problem, sometimes you just have to jump
