I have days when I feel like a big fat loser because I can’t commit to blogging regularly. Then I feel like I have abandoned my blog, which brings on more pangs of guilt, inadequacy and feelings of failure.
Then I eat chocolate and get over it…

I am reading Arianna Huffington’s book, The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging (yes, I work in web marketing all day and I read web marketing books in my spare time, what’s it to ya?) and I am learning that I am not alone in my blog abandonment trends.
The text shares that of the 112 million blogs in the blogosphere, only 7.4 million have been updated in the last ninety days (thanks Technorati for the killer data) so it’s not just me, we are all blog abandoners to some degree.
I am not saying that it is ok to abandon your blog or nose dive into blogging and not be able to commit, but what I am saying is that on some days when you have blogFOG (blog Fatugue, Overwhelm and Guilt) that it’s ok. Sometimes you need to take a day or two off, breathe and revisit.
We tend to give your energy to things we enjoy, I think people with long-term blog committment issues are 1. not into blogging 2. deep down, really insecure about writing or 3. may be perfectionists. If you love your subject and dig writing about fact and your opinion, then you can ride the waves of committment issues, BlogFOG and not abandon your effort.
The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging is great so far, buy it, keep it, get inspired by it!

Lorrie,
Thanks to a new Tweet, I found my way to your blog! I’m located a little south of you in the Los Angeles area. My goal in life? To get the heck out of Los Angeles! (been saying that since 1974)
I don’t think we should ever feel guilty about having blog-free days here and there. I find that the breaks provide me with the chance to re-charge my blogging battery. When I return to my keyboard, I feel refreshed, revived, and renewed to beging again!
Looking forward to your newsletters,
MELANIE
