This week I was fortunate enough to attend The Women’s Conference with the Wild Web Women and 25,000 other attendees in Long Beach, CA! Hosted by Maria Shriver, the annual forum features amazing and inspiring women including Eve Ensler, Madeleine Albright, Arianna Huffington, Katie Couric, Caroline Kennedy - and too many more to name!

The theme of this year’s sold-out event was Be Architects of Change - so it was especially appropriate that they hosted a discussion on Changing the World Through the Web featuring innovators who are using new technologies to revolutionize the ways we connect, communicate, collaborate and learn!

Check out how these visionaries are using the web for social good:

Ashton Kutcher, Twitter king and co-founder of Katalyst Media, was definitely a crowd favorite! He talked about how his company uses new technology including social media to aggregate and activate audiences around issues and values that matter to them. Mr. Demi Moore also shared his new obsession with photo sharing site Daily Booth.

Facebook’s Randi Zuckerberg talked about the launch of Peace on Facebook, a collaboration with Peace Innovation at Stanford University that helps people from different backgrounds easily connect to better understand one another in hopes of decreasing world conflict.

PayPal veteran Premal Shah now helps low-income entrepreneurs around the world with micro-loans on Kiva.org, a web site that connects people for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva raises about $1 million every 10 days, and in addition to changing lives around the world - Shah mentioned that Kiva has a 98% repayment rate on micro-loans!

With the internet and social media, it’s easier than ever to share ideas and make an impact. On the web, anyone with a passion can be an architect of change!

    I loved sharing this day with you Emilia and I loved hearing Ashton speak. He focused so much on all the free social media tools that makes us all drink the social kool-aid (where we help people learn HOW to use them which is the unsexy part, those free tools don’t magically drive themselves!) so I think some people may not realize how much WORK is involved to drive these tools!

    Mr. Moore also talked a lot about how websites were dead and that is NOT TRUE. Our “site” happens to be built on a blog foundation and I believe sites need to be solutions, but there will always be a place for a website.

    Ashton Kutcher is a social media god, and will likely make our marketing man crush list http://www.squidoo.com/hottest-men-in-marketing-and-PR in 2010, but I do want to help anyone who heard him speak know that we have to apply ideas as they fit us…not as they fit a mega celebrity/weblebrity who WILL have 40,000 followers and does not need a website ;-)
