Faxing: Ancient History or Necessary Evil?

Similar to the way I feel about things like paper checks, keys, and small change, sending faxes wastes resources, and technology already exists that makes it obsolete.  But not everyone is as ready to move on to the days of internet banking, wireless payments and finger/retina scanning as I am — so, in an effort to resolve working in both the past and the future, creative people have come up with solutions that works for everybody.

There are solutions for sending faxes from files directly on your computer without any paper at all:

  1. (My Favorite) http://faxzero.com | FaxZero lets you send a fax to any fax machine in the United States (including Puerto Rico) or Canada for free. You don’t need a fax machine yourself, but you do need a valid e-mail address.  This is great for faxes that don’t need your official company logo attached, but are necessary to get signatures, etc..  from one person to the next.
  2. http://www.myfax.com | MyFax is used by individuals, small, medium and large businesses to send and receive faxes using existing email accounts or the web. MyFax offers services in North America, Europe and the UK.
  3. http://www.efax.com | eFax offers an internet faxing solution for individuals and small businesses. They includes online storage, 24/7 support, and wireless access.

And an honorable mention goes to: http://drop.io

Not only do they do online faxing, but it’s a general way to share content online. They allow you to privately share email, phone, fax and more in a way that isn’t indexed by search engines to keep it private.

So while we wait for everybody else to catch up with the future, you can continue to Get Things Done (GTD) in the present.
