Teaching web marketing is so rewarding, but sometimes I feel like I gain more than I give as a teacher. It is my job to facilitate learning, it’s the students who demonstrate what they learn -and what I gain from that is really amazing! Emilia Doerr, WMT’s Client Treatment Specialist and I just finished teaching a Social Media Marketing class at UCSB. We have been reading the final projects and I wanted to share a great quote from Cindy Daly, one of our students as her “give” was our “gain” (and will be yours too):
“There is nothing worse than a blog that is not maintained, a Facebook page that is never updated or a Twitter page than has no tweets.”
I asked Cindy for permission to share this quote (and she agreed – thank you Cindy!) because it is SO TRUE and so relevant for small businesses, marketers or entrepreneurs to remember when embarking on the wild waters of social media.
Social media marketing is a commitment!! All the classes, eBooks and training in the world will not work if there is no commitment to MANAGE social media.
Healthy web marketing is about creating ideas, executing them and monitoring them (and you repeat all three steps all the time).
When I read Cindy’s paper (I would have shared the whole thing, but I have that teacher confidentiality thing to respect!) her brilliant statement was so simple, yet so powerful that it couldn’t go unshared.
So, in the name of practicing what I preach, my blog has been maintained for your reading pleasure.
I hope you got some healthy marketing motivation, or can forward this to someone you work with and go “See!!! The Marketing Therapist says abandoning social media is bad”.
Don’t make me stage a web marketing therapist intervention on you for abandoning your social media!
If you focus your social media marketing on service and have a clear management plan (remember strategy FIRST, social media execution SECOND) you will likely avoid an intervention from social services.
Take responsibility for your social media and Cindy, thank you for reminding us about the importance of this!!
