Social Media Moms

This morning, as I was busily multi-tasking between drinking my coffee, feeding my one year old breakfast, putting away dishes, checking my email and making my long “to do” list- something came on The Today Show that caught my attention.  As a “Social Media Mom” myself, this really hit close to home and felt like I needed to share.

Advertising executive Terri Walters and blogger Wendy Piersall from SparkPlugging.com, eloquently explained how blogs and social media networking, many run by work at home moms, are gaining momentum and have become a valuable source of information for consumers.  Mainstream brands are taking notice.

With the economy in crisis, more and more women are learning ways to utilize their skills and have begun publishing  content that is getting noticed on a wide scale. We are changing the way marketing is conducted by social networking.  Major brands understand the value of word of mouth advertising in social networks and consumer driven blogs, and are finding new ways to leverage these resources to build relationships with their customers.  This is not a trend, this is just the beginning of the new way of marketing- as Wendy points out in this interview with Ann Curry- “Marketing is not changing, it has already changed”.

Thought I would share (please pardon the 30 sec. commercial before the piece, I promise it is worth watching if you have not seen this).

I saw this too and totally thought of you! It was a great segment – and really got down to some important questions re: consumer trust, authenticity and the rise of sponsored conversations. Thanks for posting the segment!
