It’s great to run a marketing agency and virtual marketing support system when you ARE your target market. I am a small business owner AND an entrepreneur AND a marketing professional, so it is great to share wealthy web tips that can help you, especially when my personal/professional “school of hard knocks” lessons can spare you time and headache!
Self-Diagnosis:
I was suffering from business card overwhelm. Symptoms of business card overwhelm can include:
-Messy Desk
-Guilt for not sending follow up emails
-Memory Loss (forgetting what you did with that darn business card when you need it)
Business/Marketing Prescription:
Use social media as your business card storage tool. I think of social media as an “interactive rolodex“, storing my contacts in a way that is easy to access AND updates itself!
**Think about it…are you more likely to update your Linkedin profile or send out new business cards when your contact information changes? The same goes with YOUR contacts.
You connect with them in social media, then they update their information and you can easily tap them!
When I get business cards, I go to Linkedin.com and/or Facebook and/or Twitter and look their name up and connect with them. Then, if I need to search them my name (first, last) or company or even job description, I am likely to have a quick and easy look-up.
The business cards get recycled (or saved if they are well designed!) and my desk stays clean and the guilt of following up is alleviated!
Healthy Contact Maintenance and Checkup:
Use social media (your choice of which ones) to manage your connections. Healthy marketing means making and maintaining meaningful connections.
Use the social web for more than sharing what you ate for breakfast. Social media allows us to:
-Connect
-Communicate
-Collaborate
-Enjoy (yes, it’s fun!)
Make social media multi-talk – make social media your interactive rolodex and stop business card overwhelm today!
