This week I’m focused on Getting Things Done (GTD). When you live and work on the internet, you often have to pass out your email to various companies and services to receive access to their materials. But you don’t always want to be passing out your email willy nilly. You can avoid getting spam in your primary account by having multiple accounts. Currently, I have about 8 email addresses in active use — different ones for different things — but to use them, I have to login/logout, or, go the extra mile with Gmail to receive everything in one account and be a super-labeler to keep track of it all.
As much as I’m a huge fan of Gmail and their labeling system, I’m woman enough to know the limitations to my organization powers.
So, what’s a girl to do when she needs to give out an email for something for which she’s *sure* to get spam? And she doesn’t want to be constantly logging in/out of various accounts to get the confirmation email, etc?
She uses Mailinator: http://www.mailinator.com
Mailinator is a disposable email service for people who want to avoid spam. It is a tool that allows users to create an on-the-spot email identity that they can use to receive email, then never think about it again.
So free yourself from the multi-email shuffle, say no to unwanted spam, and go forth to sign up for whatever you want!
