Search Engine marketing tips to help you optimize your blog and get more love from the search engines!

Blogs are great for sharing your expertise and attracting clients and consumers, as well as creating virtual therapy sessions and promoting good health.

But one of our favorite reasons to blog is to boost your site’s search engine visibility and drive more traffic! Here are some search engine marketing best practices to help you optimize your blogging efforts!

SEO Tip: Use Descriptive Key Phrases Early and Often

Use descriptive phrases to help search engines know exactly what your content is about. If you are a day spa that offers ahhh-mazing products that are eco-friendly, talk specifically about your “organic spa products.” If you offer fabulous vacation homes in California, make sure you content specifically talks about “vacation rentals in Santa Barbara” – not just vacation rentals.

Use key words in your title, body, and categories/tags to boost SEO. In titles, use key phrases up front whenever possible (search engines and human eye balls read from left to right!)

SEO Tip: Use Key Phrases in Linked Text to Boost SEO

Weaving search-delicious key phrases into linked text that points to additional resources on your web site can help boost your search engine visibility. Since the objective of search engines is to provide highly relevant search results, you can use linked text to help search engines index your site. But keep in mind that linked text must be relevant to the landing page it’s pointing to.

For example, avoid using text links that are not SEO-friendly: Click here for more advice on how to hire a tax attorney.

Instead, use the most relevant and descriptive keyword phrases when linking: Visit our help section for  advice on how to hire a tax attorney.

SEO Tip: Preserve Your Site’s Online Reputation

Be aware that your SEO can be undermined by spam. I recently blogged about how spam comments and pingbacks can hurt your search engine marketing and how to eliminate spam for good SEO.
