Web 2.0 has brought on a ”revenge of the nerds” marketing celebration. The web has provided a wild world or opportunities, changed communication patterns, altered human behavior and (and I love this part) grabbed the traditional rules of marketing by the ankles, flipped it upside down and is shaking the heck out of it! Nerds rule in this time because we think and tap new technologies to connect and collaborate. The uncool kids are now the cool kids.
Speaking of cool nerds, I found a total academic nerdy video on YouTube that is worth grabbing a cup of coffee and watching. What is the web all about? Well, the “web” part of “world wide web” is all about connection and Michael Wesch, Anthropoogist at Kansas State University presents his “Anthropological Introduction to YouTube”
This video taps my uber nerd in a warm/fuzzy way. This hour long presentation (presented at the Library of Congress, June 23rd 2008) addresses this massive communication tool, what it’s all about and what it means to all of us. Wesch’s project started when he launched Web 2.0 … The Machine is Us/ing Us on YouTube and it soared to one of the top watched videos (on Super Bowl Sunday of all days!) Both videos were viral marketing phenomenons and when you watch them you’ll see why.
Embrace your inner nerd, learn how marketing has evolved and think so you make smart marketing choices!
Make it a great day!
