Roxanne Zbinden, owner of an organic day spa in Santa Barbara, Cielo Spa, has my vote for Positive Role Model of the month! Reading her “About” page on the Cielo Spa website, the first sentence states “I created Cielo Spa as a sanctuary”. True, so true. It is luxurious, private, quiet, utterly relaxing - and I am getting ahead of myself.
First let me tell you about Roxanne. She received her esthetician license in 2000 and complimented her skincare training with massage, graduating in 2002 with a massage therapy license. After six years working for someone else, she decided to take the leap and start her own business. Always a tough thing to do, especially in a town that is known as a “vacation destination” (translation: lots of other day spas competing for the same business). Nevertheless, she pursued her dream, and Cielo Spa is celebrating its three year anniversary this month! Roxanne’s customers keep coming back because she uses and promotes products that she believes in (which includes products that give Cielo Spa the distinction of being an “organic spa”), she creates an atmosphere for people to rejuvenate in, she takes a genuine interest in her clientele and, to top it off, her approach is much more holistic – each treatment balances spirit, health and body.
In addition to running the spa, Roxanne is the business-brains behind it. Roxanne collaborated with Lorrie Thomas Web Marketing (AKA the WebMarketingTherapy Wild Web Women) to create a search-friendly website and a fun wellness and beauty blog for “Busy Working Women and Moms” (which I have failed to mention that she is both- she has three young children too!). Due to the searchability of her website and blog, she has earned a most distinctive honor this past week! Roxanne was
visited and interviewed by Paige Donner from the Huffington Post- the internet’s #1 online newsletter – who was in town for the SB Film Festival and was in search of “greener” businesses. Cielo Spa was written up with a glowing review. Paige Donner notes that Roxanne has “has indeed created a purely heavenly, relaxing space” and goes on to describe treatments and services available at Cielo Spa such as her signature “All Natural” facial that utilizes only eco-friendly ingredients that do not contain toxins, synthetics or parabens. We at WebMarketingTherapy, also an eco-friendly company (member of 1% for the planet), love to see other local businesses like organic spa Cielo Spa, grow, blossom and get the recognition they deserve! Congratulations Roxanne on the third anniversary and the write-up in Huffington Post! You have truly earned it all!
