Blog abandonment guilt. If it’s happened to you, you’re not alone. In fact, you’re actually in some pretty good company.

Jason Mraz: He Sings, He Dances, He Blogs

First of all, I have to confess that singer-songwriter Jason Mraz is one of my obsessions.

So there I was stalking him on his blog, when his October 26th entry struck me as exhibiting some of the classic symptoms of Blog Abandonment Guilt.

And as you can imagine, he’s a busy guy. But in the middle of touring to promote his latest album “We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things,” he drops everything to offer a Mea culpa to his neglected blog while sitting in an airport in Denver,Colorado.

Symptom 1: Apologizing for behavior that you have little to no control over. Then beating yourself up over it and offering renewed commitment.

Dear Computer,

I am sorry for the way I’ve been neglecting you. I’ve been a shitty parent. Not only have I NOT been feeding you words and business, but I’ve been starving you of energy as well, and I know how much you love that sweet electrifying juice from the wall socket. I’ve been a deadbeat dad and I aim to make it up to you.

Symptom 2: Allowing your inability to blog on a regular basis to start intruding into other areas of your life.

I have written a similar note of apology to your brother, the cell phone. I’m surprise he didn’t suffocate, lost at the bottom of my bag, smother under some trail-mix droppings, thirsty for air.

Symptom 3: Defending your choices to spend time doing other things.

Please don’t be jealous of the camera, as you can sense we’ve been spending more time together. I’m not playing favorites. In fact, we couldn’t edit & share our images without you.

Blog Abandonment happens from time to time, as we all attempt to juggle our busy personal and professional lives. And while we all wish we could do more in a single 24-hour day, it’s important to recognize the things we do accomplish and know that channeling our creative energy into rewarding outlets will help us live to blog another day.

And when you do feel The Guilt closing in on you, try taking a cue from Jason Mraz – and blog about it!

    I have B.A.G.

Blog Abandonment Guilt can happen to all of us.
Owning that you have symptoms of this ailment is the first step to recovery.
Do not forget that blogs are also a form of free therapy and can be used as a constructive outlet to vent and work through feelings of anxiety, frustration, guilt, insecurity and fear.
Admitting that you are a sufferer of B.A.G. is the only way to get support, and support is what we need to continue to blog successfully.

One in every four bloggers suffers from B.A.G, you are not alone, there is help.
