I finished Arianna Huffington’s Blog Book while traveling this holiday - check out The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging

I encourage all of you to buy this book - it’s an easy read, is chock full of great tips and very motivating!

I will continue to share tips from the book, but what I want to leave you with this weekend is a healthy dose of marketing therapy.

A blog post a day keeps the doctor away…if you have passion to purge

Writing is therapeutic.  Remember, blogging started as journal-ing, then it evolved into conversations/ marriage of fact and opinion.  The root concept of getting ideas out of your brain and out to the universe holds amazing healing powers.  Whether you read other blogger’s posts and comment or write your own (or a combo of both) know that getting your thoughts, rants and opinions out is good for the soul (and good for others if the content is valuable!)

I get a lot of emails that have “blogging bible” spins and tips/tricks for bloggers but what I often see missing from this “advice” is the fact that blogging is not worth doing unless you have:

  1. Something valuable to say
  2. The tools to blog (this part is easy)
  3. The ability to create community (just because you built a blog does not mean people will come)
  4. And the MOST IMPORTANT piece, PAY ATTENTION - Passion.

Yep, passion.  I’m talking sloppy drippy love people!  A blogger that blogs for the sake of blogging will not be able to keep the love alive and sustain for the long haul.  We don’t blog for the money, we blog because we give a damn about something.  I happen to love web marketinng so much that I want to marry it and delay exercise and food if I have a blog post that I have to eek out (as I write this I am in my workout wear, blog had to come first).

I don’t recommend letting your health go in the name of passionate blogging, but I do want to point out that what I blog about is what I LOVE to blog about and that is the root of all of this wild web power.

Get inspired, we are the product of what we read and who we associate with.  You are already cool for associating with us, now get smart - buy this book The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging and purge your passion, it’s good medicine :)
