August 24th, 2009
On January 1, 2009, Jason Sadler started wearing a Ustream,tv t-shirt and was paid $1 by the company to chronicle his adventures in the shirt on his site www.iwearyourshirt.com. He proceeded to do the same thing the next day and the next, selling each day of the year at face value leading up to December 31, 2009 at the price of $365.
Everyday without exception he wears a shirt on his site and gives someone a day of advertising on the web. He delivers rich content using online tools like Ustream, Flickr, YouTube, and a WordPress blog. He promotes his interactive t-shirt project via social media on networks like Twitter and Facebook.
He has worn t-shirts from companies like Zappos and Quicken to Peter Shankman’s HARO and of course, various t-shirt companies like Scarlet Thistle looking for additional brand exposure. He’s raised money for charities and has even gone shirtless on several occasions.
This Guy Knows Marketing
Jason’s passion for marketing goes beyond the fun, interesting and viral content he creates (his live video show alone averages about 600 viewers a day). What is truly inspired about Jason’s project is his ability to get communities to interact with brands.
Jason knows that tools like Twitter and YouTube are just that – tools. Just because you start a Twitter account or a blog doesn’t mean you will suddenly magic up lots of new business. As Jason says, you have to work to build your army.
Using Social Media Marketing to Build Your Business
Jason recently talked about the power of social media at a Presentation for Jacksonville American Advertising Federation. And his best advice to companies looking to build their business is to try social media (sign up for different platforms and experiment), become a leader, find your niche and grow your audience.
And that’s exactly what he’ll be doing for 365 days this year on the web with www.iwearyourshirt.com!
