Just because you CAN, doesn’t mean you SHOULD…or SHOULD YOU!?!

Now that I am a mom, I can’t help but look at things through my son’s eyes and then associate that with my BIG KID world! My son got a ball popper for Christmas (he LOVES it!) and a short time after he figured out how to make the balls pop out of the top, he started riding it! He thinks everything is a “ride-on” toy, and this was no exception!

Ball Hopper or Ride On Toy?

It made me think about marketing and how people approach websites, blogs and marketing in general. You CAN do a lot of things…but it doesn’t mean you SHOULD do them! Then there are cases when something may seem a bit far fetched, but it COULD work in the right situations. Be sure that you have a good reason, that falls in line with your desired outcome before you do something.

A couple of examples of things that may or may not work for you:

1.) We have a client that uses twitter and it works great to drive people to the site and blog, but facebook just hasn’t been a good use of resources (at least at this time), so our client has chosen to forego a facebook page. There are many social media options, but you don’t have to utilize every single one-you may find one or two that work best for you.

2.) Are you reviewing books on your site? Perhaps being an Amazon Affiliate might be a good fit for you! You may have chosen not to do any kind of affiliate marketing on your site or blog, but there are some instances where it might make sense.

Anytime you are presented with marketing options, take a moment to consider if they are a good fit, or if they will suck up time that could be better used on other outlets.

Make 2009 a year that you make STRATEGIC decisions about your business!
