As Wild Web Women, one of the most important (and FUN) part about our jobs is to be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
Open communication keeps the web love alive and allows for us to do a stellar job collaborating with our partners.
Therefore, when we found a “lingo-glitch” on our own website, we jumped to fix it right away. As educators, we offer educational “webinars” to teach people the in’s and out’s of different useful web tools. Very recently, we realized that it is very possible that many of our web visitors do not understand what “webinars” are! (Web-Seminars). As soon as I brought this up in a team meeting, Lorrie delegated me to fix this “language barrier”. Now, what used to be called “webinars” are simply “online tutorials”–straightforward and easy for the web-savvy and web-rookie to understand.
It is extremely important to understand the language of your customers and speak in a way that they can easily understand. From a marketing perspective, if your customers are Wikipediaing and Googling the words you use, you are probably in need of a dose of marketing lingo makeover.
Good marketing embodies effective communication. Make sure you are speaking in the same language as your customers so that you’re not both left scratching your head. Your customers will thank you for clearly presenting your business to them and you will be glad that your message is being understood!
