According to a Robert Half Technology survey of 1,400 chief information officers (CIOs), more people are now at risk of “violating company policy.” 54 percent of CIOs said their firms do NOT allow employees to visit social networking sites for any reason while at work.
Only 10 percent of those surveyed allow employees to use social networks however they please, while the remainder all impose at least some restrictions on usage, like limiting it to business purposes only.
More and more companies are quickly moving to block social media in the workplace. However, even the companies that allow social media have been known to let employees go due to misuse on social networking sites. A recent report indicated that 8% of companies in the US have fired staff over social media misuse.
Food For Thought: Social media is not just for personal use, rather it’s a new way of doing business. It allows us to reach out, educate and serve! The 54% of companies that ban employee’s use of social media might be doing more harm than good for their business.
