I have to confess that when Skinny Bitch got published, I went out and snatched my own copy to see what it was all about. And you know what? It was a delightful read!
That’s why when our beloved webtherapist, Lorrie Thomas e-introduced me to Julie C. May, co-founder of the popular website and newsletter–www.HealthyBitchDaily.com, I couldn’t wait to share her entrepreneurial wisdom with the rest of our blog readers!
Julie founded the HealthyBitchDaily website with the authors of Skinny Bitch–one of my top reads from 2009, to share refreshing tips and pointers on everything from hygiene at the gym to organizing your private sanctuary.
Now catching up with HealthyBitchDaily has become an essential part of my daily routine!
So get comfortable and read on for how Julie C. May, PR professional, MBA, and super Healthy Bitch does it all so fabulously!
—————–
1. If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Multi-Tasker, Friendly, Creative
2. What online social media platform are you most addicted to? (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin…etc).
Facebook, without a doubt. Photos do it every time.
3. Please share a professional phobia or obsession….confession session! Conference calls that have more than 8 people on them. It’s too much chaos.
4. What is your favorite word or phrase? Why?
You can do whatever you want in life. That never gets old.
5. What do you believe successful “wild web woman” traits are?
Dedicated, diligent and resourceful. That’s the foundation. The much needed traits? Great writing, wit and humor.
6. How do you indulge yourself (every once in a while!) to stay healthy and balanced?
We have Fresh Farm Direct deliver fresh vegetables and fruit every week to our home. For me, this is like the ice cream truck coming to my door. Major highlight. Besides that, my husband and I get reflexology massages once a week. Very important to rid my body of toxins, and knots and kinks from stress.
7. What are the top three most vital marketing ingredients that have helped you become the professional you are today?
Thinking big, being optimistic and staying modest.
8. Where do you find inspiration to continue growing your business?
Knowing that everyday we make a difference to a subscriber. An email from a subscriber telling us they changed their habits to become healthier is beyond rewarding.
9. When you are faced with a setback or an enormous business challenge, what do you do to keep moving forward?
Take a deep breath and think six months out. Think of what will happen realistically and how it will all work out. Knowing the plan will ease your mind of any setbacks that today may bring.
10. Who is your personal role model? What about this person do you truly admire and aspire to?
My first boss here in Los Angeles 13 years ago. She taught me many things like, “know when to stop selling,” and “there’s always a way to accomplish something, just think it through.” But most importantly, she taught me that you have to ask for the business if you want it. No flirting.
11. What has been your biggest achievement recently that you are proud of?
The launch of Healthy Bitch Daily.com.
12. What are your goals for this upcoming year?
To continue growing healthybitchdaily.com, launch an iPhone application and a new vending machine that will transform healthy options from a “fast food” concept.
13. What is your ideal work outfit? (We work in our PJs whenever we can, what about you?)
Yoga pants and a tank top.
14. What do you think is the most challenging part about being a female entrepreneur? How do you overcome this challenge?
I have never thought being female was a challenge. It’s all about the people you surround yourself with.
15. What is the ONE web marketing best practice that you would share with other Web Marketing Therapy readers?
You need to understand your audience and deliver what they want, not what you think they want. Surveys are critical. You have to ask, “how can I get better and best serve you?” People want education, tools they can use. At the end of the day, it’s about value. Become something that is of indispensible value to your clientele and audience.
