I make a living observing patterns and helping people boost their businesses by boosting relationships (via the web, social media, the right message, etc). In my observations as a Marketing Therapist, I have identified a professional success equation that that yeilds results every time:
Responsibility + Relationship = Rewards
Responsibility. Sometimes the Wild Web Women at Web Marketing Therapy give me a hard time about reminding them (and our partners!) to “own it”, but I gotta tell ya…being responsible for yourself, your work and your communications does the trick every single time.
When we take responsibility, we take our professional contributions personally and the outcome is always 300x greater than not feeling a sense of ownership.
Marketing RX: Act like a grown-up when it comes to your marketing. Take responsibility for your success. Hire the right people, manage the people you hire, invest in partnerships, the right collateral, do a good job and make meaningful marketing happen.
Relationship. This is the warm-fuzzy part of the blog post, you ready? Good. Relationships are everything….Relationships are everything! Get out of the business of selling and into the business of serving. In business, you have to make meaningful relationships and cultivate them. You build relationships via your marketing message, social media community networking, your content and by being authentic.
Marketing RX: See Marketing RX point above. OWN IT. Do not reward partners that are not a pleasure to work with. Give your energy to your best partners, best colleagues and professionals you want around for years and years.
If you want to reap rewards in business, take responsibility and build relationships and you will see rewards.
That wasn’t so tough to swallow, now was it?
