It’s official—I have fallen in love with Dug–the Pixar dog from the upcoming movie Up, which is the cutest thing since…well, the last Pixar production (Wall-E). Dug is special because he is a “talking dog” but not because he is animated like most cartoon talking dogs, but because the Pixar writers gave him a talking collar that translates his thoughts into human languages. Fancy that! I have to admit, the trick works–if Dug was just another cute cuddly animated talking dog, I would’ve still enjoyed it but the fact that the writers gave the dog a VOICE! (also: the collar can be programmed into a number of foreign languages…for comedic effect). This small yet significant detail makes all the difference.

In a world of jaded consumers who are bombarded with creative advertisment and marketing schemes every time they pull out of their driveway or turn on the TV, having a unique voice is extremely important. It is becoming more and more important for businesses to understand which advertisements consumers are “sick of” and give them something different. I encourage you to be true to yourself, connect and bond with your customers to find out what they need/want, and give them something unique! Give your business its own unique voice and let it stand out from the crowd!

Pixar writers knew that they needed to keep the crowd guessing with its creativity. Why not do the same for your own business? Creativity sells.
