I was sharing creative “set yourself” apart ideas with some of my job-hunting students this week and before I knew it, I was telling the story of how my first guest blog post (circa 2005!) shifted my career in a great way.  No matter what industry we are in, we have similarities to our competition,  if you want to make your mark and stand out, you need to leverage your VOICE.  Blogs and content creation (web articles, emails, etc) allow us to position ourselves as the authorities we are.

When we author our expertise, we become authorities.
Note the “key” word in this powerful status description: Authority

That first post in cyberspace put me on the map - check out my first blog post!  I was merely a speck on that map, but before I knew it, that post came up when my name was Google-d, it was something I could share in my resume AND it took my expertise as a web marketer and put me in a new expert status.

Your customers want a point of view (POV).  GIVE IT TO THEM.  Keeping ideas to yourself is selfish. :-)

Share to help people help themselves and you may never know what it will do for your career in the process.

Life is too short to be ordinary – Be EXTRODINARY.  Blogging can change your career.  What are you waiting for??

[...] As I plan where this blog is going after I pass the “student” phase, or whether to keep it, my goal is to have a unique brand. The best blog authors are passionate about one thing, are experts/thought leaders, and probably don’t mind culling this information into a coherent post five times a week. I hope to be there someday.
