As a web development counselor, it’s often my job to look at websites and critique what is and isn’t working, analyzing usability, design, and of course web marketing possibilities! Sometimes what we love on our websites isn’t quite what we need. It’s easy to lose track of goals during the design process, especially after a site has been through multiple updates, and maybe numerous webmasters. We can work on driving traffic to a site… and then what happens when those users arrive?
Even a beautifully designed site can lack a clear call to action. Make it easy! (And easy doesn’t have to be ugly.) One of the many marvelous things about websites is that they’re always changing — don’t be afraid to edit your site to make it work for you. It may be a small tweak, or a larger redesign, but it’s worth it. Connect with your target market — what do you want users to do when exploring your site? Try moving that free offer, the email sign up box, your contact info, or this week’s featured product. Don’t just wonder if your changes matter… find out! We love Google’s free Analytics tools, which enable you to track traffic, users, clicks, and specific goals and actions. Monitor and adjust as needed, and don’t be afraid to make changes!
